Kukuli Velarde is a Peruvian artist based in the United States since 1997. She got her BFA degree Magna Cum Laude at Hunter College of the City University of New York. Since early in her career her work has been featured in New York in group shows at El Museo del Barrio, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Bronx Museum among others. She participated as exhibitor and mentor in the Gyeonggi International Biennial in South Korea in 2013, where she was awarded the Grand Prize. Her solo exhibition credits include: KUKULI VELARDE: PLUNDER ME, BABY at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art ( Kansas City 2013), PATRIMONIO at German Krüeger Espantoso Gallery (Lima, Perú, 2012). PATRIMONIO at Barry Friedman Gallery (NY, 2010), PLUNDER ME, BABY at Garth Clark Gallery (NY, 2007), ISICHAPUITU, at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (2001), KUKULI VELARDE at the International Biennial of Lima, Peru (1999).
